Copyright and Licensing Policy

Sabrang Research Journal respects the intellectual property rights of authors and is committed to maintaining a clear and transparent copyright and licensing policy.

1. Copyright Ownership

Unless otherwise agreed in writing, the copyright in an article published in Sabrang Research Journal remains with the author(s).

Authors retain the copyright in their original scholarly work while granting the journal the necessary rights to publish, reproduce, distribute, archive, and make the article publicly available as part of the journal's publication.

Nothing in this policy prevents authors from exercising their rights under applicable copyright law.

2. Rights Granted to the Journal

By accepting an article for publication, the author(s) grant Sabrang Research Journal a non-exclusive right and licence to:

Publish the article in print and/or electronic form;
Reproduce and distribute the published article;
Make the article available on the journal website;
Include the article in current and future journal archives;
Assign or register a DOI for the article where applicable;
Deposit or archive the article in appropriate scholarly repositories and databases;
Include the article in indexing and abstracting services;
Preserve the article in digital or institutional archives; and
Promote and disseminate the published article for academic and scholarly purposes.

The licence granted to the journal is intended to enable the journal to publish and preserve the scholarly record and does not transfer ownership of copyright from the author unless a separate written agreement provides otherwise.

3. Author's Rights

Authors retain the right to use their published work for legitimate academic and research purposes, subject to proper acknowledgement of the original publication.

Authors may, where permitted by applicable law and the journal's licensing terms:

Share the published article with colleagues for academic purposes;
Include the article in a thesis or dissertation;
Deposit the article in an institutional repository;
Include the article in a personal academic profile or website;
Use the article for teaching and academic presentations;
Use the article for non-commercial research and educational purposes; and
Reuse portions of the work in future scholarly publications, provided that the original publication in Sabrang Research Journal is properly acknowledged and any applicable third-party rights are respected.

Authors should not misrepresent the published version as having been published elsewhere.

4. Third-Party Material

Authors are responsible for obtaining appropriate permission for any copyrighted material belonging to third parties, including:

Figures;
Tables;
Photographs;
Illustrations;
Extended quotations; and
Other copyrighted material.

Where permission is required, the appropriate acknowledgement and copyright information should be included in the manuscript.

The journal is not responsible for unauthorized use of third-party copyrighted material supplied by authors.

5. DOI, Archiving and Indexing

Authors authorize Sabrang Research Journal to assign or register a DOI for their published articles through an appropriate DOI registration agency, where applicable.

Authors also authorize the journal to preserve and archive published articles and to submit article metadata and, where permitted, article files to relevant scholarly databases, repositories, indexing services, and digital preservation systems.

Indexing or inclusion in any particular database is not guaranteed and remains subject to the policies and requirements of the respective service.

6. Licensing and Reuse

The journal will clearly indicate the applicable licence for each published article.

Where the journal publishes articles under a Creative Commons licence, the specific Creative Commons licence will be displayed on the article's webpage and PDF.

Users must comply with the terms of the applicable licence when reusing or redistributing published material.

Any use that is not permitted by the applicable licence or by applicable copyright law requires appropriate permission from the relevant rights holder.

7. Fair Use and Statutory Exceptions

Nothing in this policy is intended to restrict rights or exceptions available under applicable Indian copyright law.

Uses permitted by applicable law, including legitimate quotation, criticism, review, research, teaching, or other statutory exceptions, remain subject to the relevant legal requirements.

The journal's copyright policy operates within the framework of the Copyright Act, 1957, as amended from time to time. The Copyright Office of India identifies the Copyright Act, 1957 as the principal legislation governing copyright protection in India.

8. Moral Rights and Attribution

Authors retain their rights to be properly identified as the creators of their work in accordance with applicable law.

Any reuse of a published article should provide appropriate attribution to the author(s), article title, journal, publication year, and DOI or permanent article link where available.

9. Copyright Infringement

If the journal becomes aware of credible allegations of copyright infringement involving a published article, the editorial team may investigate the matter and take appropriate action.

Depending on the circumstances, the journal may issue a correction, remove or restrict access to infringing material, publish an appropriate notice, or take other action permitted by applicable law and the journal's policies.

10. Changes to Copyright and Licensing Terms

The journal may update its copyright and licensing policy when necessary.

Any material change affecting the rights of authors or users will be communicated through the journal website and, where appropriate, to affected authors.

11. Copyright Notice

All rights not expressly granted under the applicable licence or publication agreement remain with the respective copyright holder.
